I’ve decided that pregnancy is one big waiting game. First, you wait to take the test (if I haven’t gotten my period in 3 days I’ll take it…ok, maybe 5, false negatives are so common). Then, you wait for the first doctor’s appointment to confirm the pregnancy. Next, you wait for tests, test results and ultrasounds. You wait for the nausea to end and the “honeymoon phase” to begin. You wait to hear the heartbeat. You wait to pass the second trimester mark, when risk of miscarriage is dramatically reduced.
If you are lucky enough to have made it this far, you wait very anxiously for the ultrasound that will reveal the sex of your baby. This is where I am at right now. We find out in 10 days, on August 27th. Gender predictions by friends and family mean nothing to me. As far as I am concerned, no one knows. Not even myself. I am more inclined to think it is a girl, but I also think that I could be completely wrong. Boy or girl, I do not care, I only pray for it’s health and happiness.
This waiting game will finally end in the delivery room, when momma holds baby. For me, this estimated date is January 21, 2010. And then a new game begins. Now you wait for the first laugh, first crawl, first tooth, first steps, first word, first day of school…the list will never end. But I do believe that the pregnancy waiting game is the most difficult of all.
Until then…I can hardly wait to meet our little bean!
