True wealth

“Wealth is the number of things one can do without.” ~ Feodor Dostoyevsky

This is a beautiful statement. We tend to get so caught up in STUFF. But have you ever attempted to have a garage sale? If so, you’ll realize how much stuff you’ve accumulated that you don’t want, and neither does anybody else. Sure, some of it will sell, but chances are, most of it won’t. You’ll haul the remaining items to the thrift store and feel a huge weight off your shoulders afterwards.

I think it’s safe to say that every one gets caught up in materialism every once in a while, which is why I wanted to share this quote. It is infinitely more rewarding to spend your hard-earned money on a weekend getaway with the people you love than on a weekend shopping excursion with yourself. Since retail sales are still dropping, I think more people have changed these habits (perhaps out of necessity, but the reason isn’t so important) – a silver lining to the great recession!
