friday flip-offs part 2

I feel the need today to join Gigi at KludgyMom for Friday Flip-offs. It’s just been that kind of week.

This is day 3 or 4 (I already lost track. So what?) of my transition from Blogger to WordPress. My site traffic is way down and so are comments. I think I lost all of my RSS subscribers. I just installed a plugin that may have fixed it, but I have little faith. Please let me know if you are a subscriber and you see this post in your dashboard/reader/inbox. To all things internet and blog-related. FLIP OFF.

It’s hot and we do not have air conditioning. Therefore, we must sleep with the windows wide open to avoid suffocation by the heat. To the loud, disrespectful people in my neighborhood either screaming or cruising by in your cadillac with deafening music and/or a thundering bass. I know we live in the city, across from a park and it’s occasionally noisy, but this is absolutely ridiculous. You have ruined my sleep the past two nights. Ruined. I am now sick. My baby is sick. FLIP OFF.

Like I said, it’s hot and we do not have air conditioning. We also sleep on the third floor of a townhouse and as you know, heat rises. To global warming. FLIP OFF.

Our AppleTV has decided to randomly restart in the middle of the night, about once a week, and the start-up music is extremely loud and alarming. It sounds like God has appeared in our living room. It’s NOT a pleasant way to be woken up. In fact, it’s downright scary and leaves my heart racing. Yet another impediment to my precious sleep. Not to mention that you deleted all of our music the last time we ran a software update. To the finicky AppleTV. FLIP OFF.

To this cold that is leaving my baby with a rather violent cough and runny nose. I hate you and I have no idea where you came from. FLIP OFF.

To the Elderberry extract that I bravely imbibe every 3-4 hours in hopes that it will get into my breastmilk and help Giovanna to get better. You are positively vile and if you don’t help…FLIP OFF.

Ok, I’m done and I feel better. Thanks for listening.

    1. Thanks! The switch was a pain in the arse but I do tend to prefer the look of wordpress sites. And of course I’m enjoying the functionality.

  1. Lucy! Hi sweets! I haven’t been by in awhile…but I’m here now! I just subscribed to get your updates by email so I won’t miss anymore!

  2. Hello, I have browsed most of your posts. This post is probably where I got the most useful information for my research. Thanks for posting, maybe we can see more on this. Are you aware of any other websites on this subject?

  3. You are scaring me with your transition. I’ve yet to do it. Good luck. My numbers are down too but that’s because I’ve been playing too much I think. haha. And it’s summer. So give yourself a break. Great flips. Sorry I’m so late to the party.

    1. Haha. Sorry! But if it makes you feel better, I really enjoy my new site 🙂 And thanks for making me feel better. You’re right, it’s definitely ok to slack a little in the summer. Probably even a good thing.

  4. Sorry you’re sick, but I’m glad to have gotten to your new blog; I was missing your updates!

How are you enjoying wordpress so far? I’ve thought about making the plunge myself, but can’t decide.

    1. It’s really great! I’m still getting the hang of a few things (including the comments I guess). But there is amazing functionality with the endless array of plugins available. I feel like the potential is HUGE compared to blogger. But although I didn’t lose “followers” I don’t think my blog is showing up in the Google Dashboard anymore. So I have to somehow coerce all of my followers to re-subscribe. And it’s kind of depressing.

My husband asked if I would do it again, and I said yes. I think.

  5. Lucy, same thing here, the last post from you in my reader is from July 4th. I’ll resubscribe. Guess this answers my burning question of what will happen to my followers if I switch from blogger (which I’ve contemplated). They probably make it difficult for a reason! Sending out the email was a good idea.

    1. I think they do make it difficult for a reason! Losing all your subscribers is depressing. I love my new site but I wonder how long it’s going to take to re-build my network. Definitely a difficult decision to make.

  6. Lucy – I just subscribed via email. Are you worried about feedburner people or the google friend connect faces people? about a month after i switched, i found out about a plugin called Redirection 2.1.27 by John Godley that redirects the GFC feed. Let me know if that helps you at all.

    1. Both. The GFC people are no longer seeing me in their reader (from what I’ve been told). I’ve tried using Redirection before and it ended up redirecting my “Home” page to my “Favorite Posts” page. This happened both times I installed it. No idea why! Maybe I’ll try again…thanks for the tip.

    1. Thanks 🙂 It’s been a lot cooler and we got an awesome fan. So the windows are closed and I’ve been sleeping a bit better. Thank God.

  7. Well, if you just did the switch and have 149 subscribers still…you are doing good. Really good. I only had 100 subscribers when I switched and it took me 6 weeks to get them back, even though I did all the right things, personally emailed each one of them, etc. So great job!!!

you had a tough week overall…I hope this week is better!

    1. I wish I had 149 subscribers!! No, I still have my *followers* but they aren’t all subscribed to the new feed. Something happened when I switched the feed and as far as I know , I am no longer showing up in the reader/dashboard of my followers. It WAS a tough week and although I’m still sick, I’m hoping this one is better…
