a boring idea of beauty

In the early days of her career, Maggie Gyllenhaal was repeatedly rejected for roles because she wasn’t conventionally pretty or sexy enough.

Her response?

“You must have a boring idea of what beautiful or sexy is.”

Amen.

This standard of beauty, ladies and gentlemen, is just one of many examples of where Hollywood went wrong. Where America is perhaps fatally flawed. But we don’t have to take it. We can reject their rejection.

Like Maggie Gyllenhaal, believe in the beauty of your dreams, but do not attach yourself to them.

Let go of your expectations, let them float away. And you will see that each day is a miracle. Each day is someone’s dream come true.

  1. She’s truly an inspiration. I’ll always remember the picture of her that got published a while back of her nursing her little one in public and she wasn’t worried about covering up or hiding anything 🙂

  2. I love this post Lucy! I am certainly not societies “ideal” of beauty, but I have to agree with Maggie, they must be BORING! LOL We all know that superficial can fade, but when you have beautiful energy and an enchanting spirit…you’re beautiful ALWAYS in ALL WAYS!

  3. Maggie is right. Beauty should not be a standard, but rather, something you have to discover. Everyone is beautiful in their own way, and no textbook definition of the word can compare. Plus, Maggie Gyllenhaal is VERY beautiful. These people don’t know what they’re talking about!
